COMMON ERRORS IN EXCEL |
Some of the most common mistakes with building formulas include:
- Forgetting the equal sign (=) at the start of the formula.
- Inserting a space before the equal sign (=).
- Having your data in the wrong format (for example, as text rather than as numbers).
- Selecting the wrong data range.
These problems can be easily avoided. If, however, you do have something wrong in a formula, Excel might return an incorrect result such as #VALUE!, as shown in the picture on the left. A full list of error types and ways to solve them is available in the Help topics; you'll find a link in the Quick Reference Card at the end of the course.
